Ann was born Sept. 17, 1929, in East Moline, the daughter of George E. and Vera E. Carson Carroll. She married Wendell Wassell on Oct. 23, 1948, in East Moline. Ann was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in East Moline, where she taught Sunday school. For years, she was on the Board of Youth.

From the time she was a little girl, Ann knew that her best calling was to be a mother. When her husband went on strike, she went out into the workforce as a waitress, a school lunch server and even a factory worker to help provide her family's needs. That family included not only her own children but at least three of her sisters, a brother and three nephews who also lived under her care at various times of their lives.

When her children needed affordable care for their own children, Ann left the workforce and Grandma Ann's Daycare was born. Every grandchild, children of family friends, children of her children's co-workers and finally a large number of her great-grandchildren were entrusted to the safe, loving care of Grandma Ann. During many summer days, a dozen or more children were carefully watched over by Grandma and her retired husband, Wendell. Ann spent most of her life being exactly what she most aspired to be, a wonderful and loving mother to any child who needed her care.

Survivors include her loving husband, Wendell; children, Carol (Jim) Power, Wes (Mabe) Wassell, Kevin (Barb) Wassell, Tim (Betsy) Wassell, Terry (Vickie) Wassell, Wendy (Kevin) Verschoore, Russell Wassell; grandchildren, Jen Pfaff, Chris (Michelle) Power, Jay Power, Peter Wassell, Tara (Josh) Martel, Candice Stone, Kevin (Erin) Wassell, Jamesetta (Ryan) Fredenburg, Travis Wassell, Jared Wassell, Danielle (Jason) Capps, Greg (Brie) Wassell, Keith Verschoore, Alex Verschoore, Josh (Naomi) Wassell; great-grandchildren, Blaker, Carter, Kathryn, Brandon, Ashlyn, Malacky, Taylor, Josh, Natalie, Garrett, Abby, Emma, Sarelle, Reeve, Aislinn, Lincoln, Micah, Jacob, Chloe, and Jeremiah; brother, Ernest "Jimmy" (Lillian) Carroll; sisters, Betty Lou Beck and Darlene Hamm; brother-in-law, Wesley Wassell; sister-in-law, Evelyn Bernache.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Warren and baby Wendell; and five sisters.
