LuEllen M. Hobert, 81, of Moline, passed away April 29, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday May 3, 2024, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service. The burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Ellen was born on December 1, 1942, in East Moline, the daughter of Lester and LuEllen (Billingsley) Brereton. She previously worked in sales.
Ellen overcame a challenging youth, having been born in a boxcar and accustomed to sharing a bed with her siblings in a modest home under the guidance of a resilient mother. Despite the hardships of her early years, Ellen exemplified strength and perseverance in navigating life's obstacles. Her humble beginnings shaped her into the compassionate individual she became, embodying a spirit of resilience that touched the lives of those around her.
Ellen cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren, showering them with unconditional love. Known for her generosity, Ellen went above and beyond to offer heartfelt gifts and personal gestures. Guided by her Christian faith, she believed in the principles of the golden rule, karma, and superstition. An enthusiast of gadgets, fashion, and home decor, Ellen took pleasure in adorning her home for festive occasions. Her amiable nature made her a favorite among friends, and she treasured the bond shared with her sisters during their weekly dinner and game nights. Despite facing a challenging battle with cancer, Ellen faced it with grace, integrity, and unwavering strength. The memory of Ellen will forever reside in our hearts, as we bid farewell to a truly remarkable soul.
In honor of Ellen's legacy, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice Center.
Survivors include her children, Charles (Deanne) Hobert of Rock Island, Travis Hobert of Denver, CO, Tim Hobert of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Haley Hobert of Ft. Collins, CO and Audey Hobert of Rock Island; sisters, Alice Gingry of Silvis, Marilyn (Mark) Cook of Hampton, Arleen Brereton of Silvis; brothers, Henry Brereton of East Moline, Samuel (Janet) Brereton of Moline, David (Barbara) Brereton of Milan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Roberta Coursey.
