Eugene Everett Connell, 84, of Moline, IL, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at his residence. He is at last with the Lord and his beloved, Mary Jo, for whom he said he would have bought her the moon if he could.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2900 Avenue of the Cities, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or to Wounded Warriors.
Eugene was born on April 17, 1930, in Davenport, IA, the son of Ralph "Doc" and Ella S. Boock Connell. He married Mary Josephine Stickel on December 2, 1950, in Charleston, SC, and she preceded him in death on January 23, 1995. He later married Mary Jo (Sprague) Etzel on August 14, 1999, in Sherrard, IL. He proudly served in the United States Navy.
Eugene worked as a mill operator for Alcoa for 25 years. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Moline, the East End Club, and Local # 105. He enjoyed dancing, and was an avid bowler and golfer. Eugene was a Cubs, Bears, and Illini fan. More than anything, Eugene loved being a full time father and spending time with his family.
