Eugene E. Tschopp, 96, of Coal Valley, IL, passed away, May 18, 2025, at Hope Creek Nursing Rehab & Care, East Moline.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday by Eureka Lodge #69 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals.
Eugene was born on August 10, 1928, in Marengo, IA, the son of Reinhard and Helen (Burgey) Tschopp. He married Barbara Jean Bailey on February 12, 1949, in Moline, IL. She preceded him in death on January 26, 1990. He worked as the owner and operator of Gene’s Conco Service in Coal Valley until around 1998.
Eugene enjoyed golfing, stain glass work, and officiating local high school basketball and football teams. In his younger years, Eugene was on the Quad City Mohawks, an independent and semi-professional football team in Moline from 1946 to 1950. He was a former member of the First Christian Church, Moline. He also frequented the Vikings Club, Kaaba Shriners, Eureka Lodge #69, and Thor Lodge #9. Eugene often donated blood, donating a total of 43 gallons of blood to those in need.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Cathy) Tschopp, Mary Ellyn (Donald) Wolfe, Mark (Linda Patch) Tschopp, and Matthew (Jerrianne) Tschopp; grandchildren, Nathanial (Carmen) Wolfe, Hillary (Jonathan) DeBlieck, Kimberly (Jason) Carmichael, Jacob (Kristine) Tschopp, Kyle (Ashley Stewart) Tschopp; many great-grandchildren; and significant-other, June Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; son, Darin Tschopp; sisters, Luella Mielke, Leona Baraks, and Norma Bailey; brothers, Reinhard, Orville, and Raymond Tschopp.
