Bruce King

Bruce King, 87, of Moline, passed away February 20, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Private services were held at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline and burial was at Moline Memorial Park.  

Bruce was born on April 21, 1936, in Moline, the son of Frank and Doris (Funk) King. He graduated from Moline High School and served four years in the Navy as a Machinist Mate Second Class. Bruce met his future wife, Gloria Brandt while out dancing. They later married on June 1, 1963, at First Christian Church Moline. The two would spend their nights and weekends together dancing, usually into the wee hours of the morning. They also enjoyed traveling and following local bands, especially The Crooked Cactus Band (Los Mocombos). In his younger years he coached baseball. Bruce retired from Standard Forwarding where he worked as a driver and mechanic for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Gloria; children, Kevin King, Irving, Texas, Julie Smith (David Davis), Moline, Kristi Trent (Adam), Moline; grandchildren, Eric Straw (Raymond Marquez), Bettendorf, Evan Smith, Sioux Falls SD, Kenzie Trent, Moline, Kallie Trent, Moline; and our dancing family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
