Evelyn I Malmen

Evelyn I. Malmen, 81, of Coal Valley, IL, died Friday, February 27, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1001 9th Street, Orion. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time at the church. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion or to St. Jude's. Kirk, Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. is assisting the family with arrangements.

Evelyn was born on October 18, 1933, in Esmond, IL, the daughter of Herman and Verdie Morrison Lieving. She married Gerald Forrest Malmen on June 7, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion. Evelyn worked as a typist for Minneapolis Moline and for Rock Island Millworks as a typist and mailroom switchboard operator. She also worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and as a substitute rural postal delivery person in Orion before moving to Albuquerque, NM. There, she worked for Families Plus for 18 years.

Evelyn was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Orion and Ophiem American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Malvern Lieving.
