Father Basil K. Papanikolaou

Father Basil K. Papanikolaou, 92, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on May 5, 2026, with his family at his side.

Basil was born on February 17, 1934, in Greece, the son of Constantine and Joanna (Christon) Papanikolaou. He married Antoinette “Toni” Vakalakis on May 13, 1962, in Greece. She preceded him in death. He married Christina Iskos in St. Charles, Illinois on October of 2010. They later had a church ceremony in Christina’s hometown of Dara, Greece. He faithfully served St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Rock Island for thirty years and also the communities of Kankakee, Champaign, and Dubuque.

He is survived by his three children, Dean Papanikolaou of Moline, IL, Christian (Dena) Nicholas of Moline, IL, Aristotle (Tomoko) Papanikolaou of Bettendorf, IA; his adorable grandchildren, Timothy (Jessica) Nicholas, Alex Papanikolaou; adorable great-grandchildren, Ilsa, JuJu, Eva, and Iliana Nicholas; his wife, Christina; three step-children, Katherine (Tom) Williams of Davenport, Iowa, John Moraetes of Tipton, Iowa, Melodie (Keith) Williams of Bettendorf, IA; step grandchildren, Nicholas and Tommy Alvarez, Amanda Aldrich, Christina and Ryan John Lothrop, Kalista and Damian Williams; step great-grandchild, Addison Rice; siblings, Yiota Papatheodorou, George (Mina) Papanikolaou, and Maria (Harry) Polymenakou, all of Athens, Greece.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Toni; parents, Constantine & Joanna; and his brother, Nicholas
