Frances Ann Axnix

October 19, 1932 — December 28, 2013

Frances Ann Axnix, 81, of Moline, came to the end of her life's journey shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 enveloped by the love of her family.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38 Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Burial will be at National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to her family.

Francie was born on October 19, 1932 in Edwardsburg, Michigan and grew up in South Bend, Indiana the daughter of Hungarian Emigrants, Alexander and Barbara Orban. Francie invited a young man to accompany her to a Hungarian Harvest Dance Celebration, she went on to marry this young man, her childhood sweetheart; Eugene Axnix on Flag Day, June 14, 1952.

Francie and her husband both graduated from Riley High School. She joined Gene in Germany while he was serving with the 3rd Armored Division; this was during the height of the Cold War. She volunteered to be an interpreter in Frankfurt, Germany for the Hungarian Freedom Fighters that had escaped in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution.

Francie and Gene traveled all over the United States towing their travel trailer logging over 120,000 miles. They also towed the trailer to Alaska for five, four month long trips. She loved every mile of it.

Survivors include Gene, her husband of 61 years.

Grandchildren Christa Axnix, Eugene Axnix IV, David Axnix, Peter Lower and Henri Lower.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Axnix and her brothers and sisters.
