Frank M. Simmons

Frank M. Simmons, age 85, of East Moline, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Clarissa C Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4107-21st Avenue, Moline. Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial is at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Military Honors will be performed by the East Moline American Legion Post #227. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline.
Frank was born October 19, 1926 in Brock, NE, the son of Frank and Elvira Waller Simmons. He married Barbara Lee Bailey on July 20, 1947 in Ottumwa, IA. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2004.
He was engaged to Helen Ehmen on Christmas, 2010.
Frank was employed as a production supervisor at John Deere Plow Planter, retiring in 1982. He was an Air Force Veteran, serving from December 4, 1943 to November 2, 1945. Frank always had a smile and conversation to share with everyone. In his younger years, Frank enjoyed flying airplanes and snowmobiling. Through out his life he loved fishing, boating, gardening, and metal detecting. He enjoyed working with both metal and wood, and created many pieces of furniture and other items. Frank enjoyed fixing things and usually found ways to improve anything mechanical. Frank was a long standing member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he recently served as Treasurer for six years. Even though these things were important, Frank especially loved the time he spent with his family.
