Frank F. Van Houtte Sr., 93, longtime resident of Moline, died in his sleep on Thursday, February 14, 2019, due to complications from a broken rib and pneumonia, at his son’s house in La Mirada, CA.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19th, 2019 at Rock Island National Cemetery, those wishing to attend should meet at Esterdahl Mortuary by 1:15 p.m. Military Honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the family.
Frank was born on April 23rd, 1926, the son of Frank and Mary Van Houtte. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served aboard the USS San Carlos (AVP51) Sea Plane Tender. Later, he worked for International Harvester for 35 years. He was a founding member of Local 1304 UAW-CIO from 1946 until retiring in 1981. He also served 20 years as a shop steward.
Frank then worked for Camera Corner in Moline for 16 years. He was an avid amateur photographer. He moved to live with his son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, Vicki in September 2008 due to health issues.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Rizzolo; brothers, Emil (Bonnie) Van Houtte, and Joe (Linda) Van Houtte; children, Michael (Vicki) Van Houtte, La Mirada, CA, Frank Van Houtte Jr., Comanche, OK, and Karen Webber, Des Moines, IA; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; daughter, Alice, parents, brothers, Arthur and John; sisters, Pat and Fran, one grandchild, Kelly, and one great-grandchild, Kevin.
