Gary L. Anderson, 62, of Rock Island, IL, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral services.
Gary was born on June 26, 1952, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Glenn W. and Evelyn M. Hall Anderson. He graduated from Western Illinois University in 1981. He was a substitute teacher for area high schools and coached a variety of high school sports, with an emphasis on girls' basketball. He was a member of the IHSC Association. He coached in the ASA for 20 plus years and was the Commissioner of the ASA since 2000. He founded the River City Classic Girls' Softball Tournament. He was a member of the Rock Island Lions Club and the Rock Island Booster Club. He ended his working career at the Acri Company.
Survivors include many cousins, aunts, and uncles in the Minnesota and Quincy area; and many dear family friends, including Kris Hillman, Moline, Sarah Hillman, East Moline, D. J. Hillman, Rock Island, Tony Hillman, Moline, Lucien Bailey, East Moline, Bob Martensen, Rock Island, and Neil Johnson, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
