Gary G. Mockmore, 78, of Colona, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at his home.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and private inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Genesis VNA and Hospice.
Gary was born on January 27, 1944, in Rock Island, the son of Robert and Viola (Houston) Mockmore and later Angnes Hayes Mockmore. He was a U.S, Veteran, having served in the Army from 1967-1969. He married Nancy L. Smarsty on September 12, 1999, in Bettendorf.
He was previously employed for the Bettendorf School System where he worked as a carpenter, bus driver, locksmith and maintenance. After 31 years at the Bettendorf School System, he worked for the city of Bettendorf cutting grass. Gary was a talented carpenter and cabinet maker. He enjoyed spending his time tending to his yard, woodworking, and could build just about anything. Gary never left home without his tools. After retirement, Gary and Nancy traveled full time in their RV for 10 years and continued to spend winters in the south. He loved his Honda Gold Wing and belonged to several motorcycle groups in the areas.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Tracy (Eric) Mockmore Leuth, Rock Island; step-daughters, Tina (David) Schmidt, Castle Rock, CO, Tessa (Jim) Pearce, Milan; step-grandchildren, Alison Schmidt, Megan Schmidt, Kyle Pearce, Logan Pearce; siblings, Bill Mockmore, Peggy (Bob) Henderson, Barb (Jim) Ziegenhorn, John (Mindy) Mockmore, Joe (Tina) Mockmore, Patty (Brian) Gutierrez; sister-in-law, Shirley Mockmore; 39 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother; twin sons at birth, Mark and Matthew; brothers, Bobby, Jimmy, Jerry; sister-in-law, Carylon Mockmore.
Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
