Gary L. Montgomery, 78, of Moline, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, IL.
The family welcomes you to join them in honor of Gary for the following services: The life of Gary Lee Montgomery will be remembered and celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Sherrard Community Presbyterian Church. From 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the church service, will be a time to greet the family. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August, 21, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Preemption Cemetery. Memorials may be made to In Memory of Gary Montgomery - Sherrard Presbyterian Church, Sherrard, IL, or to the family for a fund to be established.
Gary was born on January 30, 1937, in Rock Island, IL, the eldest son of Clifford and Bethel Adams Mungerson Montgomery. He graduated from Sherrard High School in 1955 and after 30 years working for the John Deere Computer Center, in 1996, Gary was ready to retire and have some fun.
He loved many things in life, his daughter, granddaughters, his home on the Rock River, boating, the Cubs, Da Bears and the Fighting Illini. When he wasn't catching a football game or floating on his pontoon, Gary spent his retirement days golfing and traveling to many places visiting his family and making countless friends along the way.
Gary had an unrivaled spirit and sense of humor loved by so many. He will be greatly missed.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Tyrina Montgomery, San Diego, CA; granddaughters, Sarah and Kelsey Theakston; brother, Clifford Montgomery; and closest friend and longtime companion, Sondra Magnuson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
