George F. Peterson, 87, of Moline, IL, died Sunday, February 9, 2014, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014, at First Lutheran Church, 1230 5th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post # 246. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or to Arrowhead Ranch.
George was born on February 22, 1926, in Burlington, IA, the son of Carl and Ruby E. (Swan) Peterson.
He married Janet E. Anderson on August 20, 1949, in Burlington, IA. George was a proud United States Navy Veteran having served during WWII. He was especially proud to be among the first crews to arrive for the occupation of Japan.
George worked as an educator for Moline School District at John Deere Middle School. He later worked as the principal and superintendent of Arrowhead Ranch in Coal Valley, retiring in 1986. He belonged to the Moline Viking Club. George loved the outdoors and going hunting and camping. He belonged to the Hawkeye Fly-Tying Club and was an avid fisherman. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church and a valued member of the church choir.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Phyllis White.
