Gilbert Homer Heyvaert, 92, of Moline, IL, died Friday, May 15, 2015, at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3207 60th Street, Moline, IL. There will be a Rosary at 4 p.m. and the visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to the Roman Catholic Chancery Office, 148 North Front Street, P.O. Gilbert was born on January 21, 1923, in Osco, IL, the son of Benedict and Theresa Van Landuyt Heyvaert. He married Kathleen K. Jones on May 28, 1955, at St. Mary's Church in Moline. He was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater during WWII from 1942 - 1946. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a body and fender repairman.
Gilbert was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline, the Moline American Legion Post 246, Moline VFW Post 2153, and the Thor Lodge 9 of Moline Viking Club.
