Gloria M. Wood, 89, of Moline, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

Private services at the Rock Island National Cemetery, with a celebration of life at a later date. The family request no flowers, but donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family.

Gloria Mae was born on March 6, 1935, the daughter of Joseph Sr. and Anita “Edith” (Biscontine) Nonnenmann. She was raised with her siblings, Joseph Jr., Mary, Norma, Cecelia, Margie, Charles and Anita in Rock Island and educated at St. Joseph Catholic School and later graduated from Alleman High School in 1952. Gloria married Clair A. Wood on May 23, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church and they were blessed with five children, Angela, Kim, Andrew, Timothy, and Laura. Clair preceded her in death on August 25, 2012.

Gloria was a master seamstress working at Northwest Fabrics where she made many displays for them and other fabric stores in the area. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren always had prize winning costumes for Halloween. With her creative abilities she also worked at McCabe’s and Von Maur in the gift-wrapping department. Gloria was a member of the Italian American Society with her daughter, Angie and niece, Nancy Blair, and together they made authentic Italian desserts and for the spaghetti supper fundraiser. The baked goods were always one of the highlights. Gloria loved to cook and was known for her ravioli and pizzelle cookies. She also enjoyed Bingo and playing cards with her family.

Survivors include her children, Angela Wamsley, Kim (Dennis) Ford, Andrew (Mary Lou), Timothy (Sandra) Wood, and Laura (Leroy) Byers; 13 grandchildren, Ryan, Anthony (Candace), Matthew and Evan Glydwell, Christina Rogers, Sarah (Andy) and Paul (Jasmine) Ford, Brandon and Brandilyn Wood, Amanda (Justin) Sanquist, Michael (Sarah) Wood, Nicholas Wood, Scott and Jamie Murray, Sioux Jackson, Rosie Jackson, Fallon Jackson, and Jason Leonard. great grandchildren, Andrew, Luke, Holden and Everett Glydwell, Grayson Rogers, Isaiah, Shiloh, Lincoln and Winston Ford, Brandon, Brandie Wood, Kensington and Karsten Sanquist, Henry  Wood and Adrian Murray. She is also survived by her sister Anita Woest; sister-in-law, Adrienne Nonnenmann, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clair; siblings, son-in-law, Stuart Wamsley, sister-in-law, Kathy Nonnemann, brothers-in-law, Merle Myers, Harold Locke, Richard DeMuynck, and Tom Woest.
