Gordon D Schwabe

Gordon D. Schwabe, 88, of Moline, passed away, Friday, January 21, 2022, at Overlook Village Senior Living, Moline.

Funeral services will be held at Noon, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246.  Memorials may be made to One Eighty, 601 N Marquette Street, Davenport, IA 52802 or to Samaritan's Purse.

Gordon was born on March 1, 1933, in Thompsonville, Illinois, the son of Earl and Dolly (Galbraith) Schwabe. He married Patricia A. Hulett on September 14, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2021. He received Christ as his savior at 17 years old at a Revival in Thompsonville, IL. Within 2 years he was shipped to Korea and stayed there for 13 months as head baker of his unit. After being honorably discharged he worked for Rock Island Lines for 10 years. He was employed at Alcoa for the next 30 years retiring in 1984. The love of his life was Pat, they had a beautiful marriage for over 60 years. He was a former member of the Moline Gospel Temple (River City Church) in Moline.  He was a member of Calvary Church of the Quad Cities, Moline for the past 20 years. He was a deacon, elder, and high school Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. Gordon was a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. He lived a life of integrity and service to others. His hobbies included camping, fishing, golfing, and bicycling. He and Pat biked all over the US. He loved spending time with his family and friends. To Gordon and Pat their grandchildren and serving Jesus were their greatest joys.

Thanks to Compassus Hospice and Overlook Village and their amazing, caring, staff for all their help and support over the past year.

Survivors include his daughters, Lynette (Don) Wilson, and Julianna (Gail) Palmer; grandchildren, Matt (Emma) Palmer, Ryan (Helane) Palmer, Shelby (Christopher) Steffe, and Rachael Wilson; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Earl (Karen) Schwabe and Jack (Anna Faye) Schwabe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; grandson, Shae; and sister, Jean.
