Gwyn V. Hughes, 79, of Moline, died May 18, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2009 from 3 - 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal with military rites provided by American Legion Post 596/200 and V.F. W. post 1303. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a trust fund to be established for his great grandchildren.
Gwyn was born August 11, 1929 in Muncie, Kansas to Jesse F. and Thelma (Vincent) Hughes. He married Iva F. St. John on July 29, 1950 in Rock Island.
Gwyn was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He was employed as a carpenter and business agent for the Carpenters Union # 166.
Gwyn was a life member of VFW #1303, Rock Island. He also was a member of the Moline American Legion, the Viking Club, former Moline Elks Club # 556 and the Carpenter Union #166. He enjoyed hunting, traveling and was on the Trade Bowling League and Sunday Gutter Mix. He also enjoyed Nascar Racing and was a Tony Stewart fan.
