Helen Stone

Helen M. Stone, 98, of Silvis died Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus in Silvis.

Helen chose to donate her body for medical study.  A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, where she was a member.  Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family either one hour preceding the service or at a reception in the church dining room following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Youth Hope (3928 12th Avenue, Moline, IL, 61265) or the First Presbyterian Church (777 25th Avenue; East Moline, IL  61244).

Helen was born on December 16, 1920 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Maynard and Alice Heusinkveld) Stone.  She attended the former Rock Island Business College.  She was a secretary in the Industrial Relations and Personnel Department of Deere & Company for 27 years, retiring in 1982.  She had also been employed as secretary to the Chief Nurse, Schick Army General Hospital, Clinton, Iowa during World War II, as well as residing at and being employed in Davenport and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Dallas, Texas and Estes Park, Colorado.

She had been active in the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deacon and a member of Presbyterian Women.  She was a charter member (1959) of the Ever Willing King’s Daughters Circle, as well as a member of the Christian Friendliness Auxiliary, Deere Women Retiree Club and the Republican Women’s Club of Rock Island County.  She especially enjoyed her home, family and friends, travel and volunteer work.  Helen traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe and throughout the Mideast, including Bethlehem and Jerusalem.

Survivors include her brother and wife, David and Janice Stone, Fulton; nephews, Mark and Sue Stone, Colona; Rev. Roderick and Marsae Stone, Pinehurst, NC; niece, Carol and Ken Stralow, Morrison and very special great nieces and nephew, Christina Stone and Hannah, David and Sarah Stralow.

Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
