Henry Murphy

Henry Murphy, 72, of Orion, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones at Genesis East in Davenport.

A private graveside service will be held. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials may be made to any charity in Henry’s name.

Henry was born on April 23, 1949 in Knoxville, TN, the son of Blakely M and Elizabeth L (Love) Murphy. He married Betty J. Altschul on June 21, 1980 in Urbana, IL. He was very proud of his career in music before his marriage. He was one of the owners of Good Vibes Sound in Champaign, IL. Later in life he worked as a computer programmer for Rain Maker Software in Bettendorf where he retired from in 2019.

Henry was chairman for the Henry County Democratic Party. He was a former member of the Orion Main Street group as well as a member of the Geneseo Art League. He enjoyed wood working and British sports cars. Henry was an avid photographer. He was a railroad and radio electronics enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, children, Brian (Gwen) Murphy, Orion, IL, Brenda (Travis) Merle, Oak Park, IL; grandchildren, Lucy Murphy, Nolan Murphy, Coralyn Merle, and Ward Merle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and half-sister, Judith Moore.
