Herschel M. Paul, 91, passed away Monday Feb. 8, 2010 in Rockford, IL.
Services will be 1:00 PM Friday Feb. 12 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601, 38th Ave. Moline, IL. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until time of service. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate. Memorials may be made to Faith Evangelical Free Church, Moline.
Herschel was born in Rock Island on April 9, 1918 to Delphia (McCann) and James A. Paul. He attended Washington Junior High, Rock Island High School and Augustana College. He married Ruth Whitman on Nov. 4, 1939.
Herschel started work as a caddy at Rock Island Arsenal then worked in produce at the New York Store. He then worked at Farmall and as a finish grinder at the Rock Island Arsenal until enlistment into the United States Army Air force during the Second World War. After discharge he became self employed in several businesses. Hay bailing in Arizona, Farm implement in Aledo Il. "Paul's Oliver Service" and owner of Paul's Tinting and Styling Salon in Moline. He tried retiring but went back to work driving for Bekin Van Lines for 3 years. He finally retired in 1982 but continued to manage his apartments until 1985. He was a long time member of Faith Evangelical Free Church Moline. He enjoyed wood carving and volunteered teaching seniors computer skills.
Survived by wife Ruth; Children, Dr. James (Anita) Paul of Plano, TX., Jerry L Paul of Menomonee Falls, WI., Dr. Jon (Renita) Paul of Rockford, IL.. Grandchildren; Brian, Allison (Nolan), Angela, Ginette (Endres), Nicole (Fisk), Eric, Kristine. Great-grandchildren; Donald Fisk, Rion Nolan, Wyatt and Garrett Paul, Gabriele and Isaiah Endres, Alex Paul. Predeceased by parents and sister Francine (Radetzki).
