Jack Cobb

March 5, 1926 — December 30, 2022

Our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, Jack Cobb, 96, of East Moline, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the Arc of Rock Island or the Veterans Memorial Honor Flight.

Jack was born on March 5, 1926, in Rock Island, the son of Marshall and Rose Modde Cobb. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1944. He joined the Navy in 1944 and spent two and a half years serving as an arm guard, and a gunner on a Liberty Ship named “Jeremiah Russ” and also spent time on a mine sweeper “The USS Execute 332” in the South Pacific. In 1947, he married Ronda Marie Fostervold in Rock Island, she passed away in 1992. They had one daughter, Karyn, who passed away in 2011. In 1951, Jack joined the Marine Reserves, and the unit was called up for active duty during the Korean War. He was sent overseas to Kwajalein Island to patrol a Marine Base and Air Strip, he was discharged in 1951, as a Sergeant.

In 1951, Jack started an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He worked for Ken Curry Construction Co. for 17 years as a carpenter and as a foreman, then he worked for Eagles, in Milan, as Construction Supervisor overseeing the building of 34 new stores and major remodeled stores in the Chicago area retiring as Chief Construction Supervisor in 1987.

Survivors include his brother, Jim (Sandy) Cobb, Rock Island; nieces, Cindy Ferguson of East Moline, Becky (Mike) Natsis of Moline, Marsha (Burkhard) Bohn of Atlanta, Georgia, Cynthia (Glenn) Ball of Colona, Kim Wright of East Moline.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ronda; daughter, Karyn; parents; sisters, Doris Thompson, Marjorie Wright; nephew, Michael Ferguson.

He and his family say THANK YOU to the nurses at Park Vista, Genesis Hospice Care, Maggie and Kelly for their assistance while he was a resident there.
