Rev. Jack L. Heino, 86, December 17, 1937 – February 12, 2024, has gone to live with His Lord after a full and faith-filled life.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, East Moline. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until services start at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery.
Jack attended Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, IL where he met his future wife, Mary Linda. His lifetime of service included serving congregations in Farmington, MN; Mellen, WI; Green Bay, WI; Webster City, IA; Geneseo, IL; and East Dundee, IL. In 1967 Jack and Mary moved to Oceanside, CA, just outside of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Jack served as a Frontline Battalion Chaplain for the 1st Battalion 9th Marines “The Walking Dead” in Vietnam from 1967-1968, where he received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and achieved the rank of Navy Captain. Jack Heino completed his career of service as the Chief of Chaplains for all U.S. Armed Forces Chaplains of the world based out of Washington, D.C. He and Mary returned to live in East Moline, IL, in 1995, when he retired, and continued to serve as a chaplain at the Rock Island Arsenal.
He leaves behind his loving and loved wife, Mary, and their four daughters and their families: Marisa (Moises Andrade) Jeffers; Gina (Dan) Campidilli, Dane Campidilli, Sam Ebensberger, Danika Klaver, Ross Enslin, Briar Klaver, Beckett Klaver and Banks Enslin; Carmen (Scott) Roberts, Morgan Biehunko, and Grant Biehunko; and Monica Sipp, Alexis and Eric Konopa, Colden Konopa, Callen Konopa, Baby-in-the-womb Konopa, and Caleb Sipp.
