Mr. James Hammond, 49, of Moline, died on March 18, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation for Mr. Hammond will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd.6601-38th Ave., Moline. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at First Christian Church, Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Moline or to the Veteran Affairs office in Bettendorf for their van fund.
He was born on July 14, 1959 in Moline to Janet and Albert Hammond. He enlisted in the Navy after graduation from Moline High School in 1978. After basic training, he was stationed on the USS Peterson DD-969. He visited several ports of call before being honorably discharged in 1988.
After his discharge from the Navy he worked at Georgetown University in Washington, DC as a A/V Engineer from 1989-1993; LRC Electronics, Davenport, IA as a Security Camera Tech from 1994-2004; and ALCOA as an ultra-sonic inspector from 2004-2008 when he was diagnosed with cancer.
He is a member of the Masons, Lodge 1014 of Moline, IL; member of the Patriot Guard Riders; and founding member of the Riders for Christ.
Mr. Hammond was an elder at First Christian Church of Moline and was called to lay ministry in 2004 and became Minister of Mission for First Christian Church Moline.
Mr. Hammond enjoyed taking long walks in the park or campsites with his four-legged companion Molly.
