James “Jim” Rodger Hamerlinck, 75, of Coal Valley, passed away April 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday May 1, 2025, at Mary Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Orion. A Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday April 30, 2025, at the church with the visitation to follow from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery.
Jim was born on January 27, 1950, in Moline, the son of William R. and Bernice I. (Curry) Hamerlinck. He married Nancy P. Brown on August 30, 1969, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Colona. Jim was a U.S. Veteran having served in the Army from 1969-1975. He was a lifelong farmer with Hamerlinck Farms and later a truck driver for McKnight Ag Inc. and Dan Ash Trucking Inc. Jim was a lifelong member of Mary Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, farming, junking and scrapping. He also liked mushroom hunting and tending to his lawn. Jim was a snack pusher and was often asking, “Can I get you something to drink?” He enjoyed buying surprise gifts for his family and was the #1 pop-in visitor.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children, Michael (Tara), Paula (Dan), Holly (Philip), Troy, Brent (Kayla); grandchildren, Taylor, Breanna, Maddison (Cody), Gage, Jacob, Gavin, Reagan, Emily, Ethan, Carter; great grandson, Wyatt; siblings, Gary (Deb), Keith (Nancy L.), Mary (Don), Tom (Tammy).
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Faith, maternal grandparents, Alvin & Katherine Curry and paternal grandparents, Julius & Emily Hamerlinck.
The family wishes to thank UnityPoint Health Trinity Rock Island 4 South, especially Callie and Kara and also Heartland Hospice, especially Zuri, Kallie, and Megan for the loving care provided to Jim and his family.
As Jim would say, “No matter what, every day is a good day.”
