James "Jimmy" Schnepple

formerly of Silvis

James “Jimmy” Schnepple, 65, formerly of Silvis, passed away peacefully in Iowa City on Sunday, February 11, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Saint Mark’s Anglican Church, Silvis. Burial will follow at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Saint Mark’s Anglican Church, Silvis.

Jimmy was the epitome of ‘devoted’ - to his job, community, church, and loved ones. Anyone who knew him saw how hard he worked and how much he cared for others. After completing his apprenticeship, Jimmy was hired by J.L. Brady where he spent his career. He was highly respected by the members of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 25 for his experience and skills. People from all around the Quad Cities benefited from his quality handiwork.

As an active member of Saint Mark’s Anglican Church in Silvis for many years, Jimmy always supported the mission and outreach work of the church. He and his wife, Becky, were both youth group leaders there several years ago. More recently, however, he had been serving as the church music director, combining his passion for singing and his faith in Christ. The friendships he formed there over the years were some of his most cherished.

Additionally, Jimmy volunteered his time as an engineer/ EMT on the Carbon Cliff - Barstow Fire Department. Citizens in the community and members of the fire department alike always appreciated how reliable and resourceful he was.

Most evident was Jimmy’s love for his family and friends. In fact, people joke about how he often left the front door of his home unlocked. For Jimmy, the door was literally and figuratively ‘always open’ to others. Several have been blessed by his generosity and hospitality over the years. He took good care of many relatives and friends. His fidelity to his wife, in particular, was exemplary.

Jimmy was known for his love of fishing. He could also often be found camping out at Shady Lakes, enjoying the good life. A lover of tradition, Christmas, special celebrations, and family vacations, Jimmy valued any opportunity to spend time together with those dear to him.

He is survived by his children, Mat (Alicia) Schnepple, Galva, Jay (Phil) Potaczek, Ottawa; granddaughter, Olivia Schnepple; sisters, Barb Schnepple, Moline, Linda (Mark) Belman, Silvis, Sue (Charlie Peppers) Zimmer, Moline; sister-in-law, Joline Witte, Moline; aunt, Ann Donahue, Moline; many nieces, nephews and God children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Chris, and his wife, Becky.
