James “Jim” E. DuBois, 73, of Moline, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  A graveside service will follow immediately after at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.

Jim was born on July 15, 1948, in St. Charles, MO, the son of Frederick and Loreen (Persohn) DuBois.  Jim received a B.A. at Southeast Missouri State College (1971) where he was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity.  After graduating college, he moved to the Quad Cities in 1972 to work for the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services, where he served faithfully for 30 years until retiring in 2002.  As a Rehabilitation Senior Counselor, he learned sign language and advocated for his clients, many of whom had disabilities.  Throughout his career, he made lifelong friends and had a lasting impact on the lives of the many he served.

In 1980, his life changed at a work social, where he sashayed across the room and met his future wife.  He married Brenda Meincke in 1985 and they were able to build their dream home where he was always known for his pristine lawn skills.  Brenda was adventurous and convinced Jim to do many things, like getting a winter place in Florida and a camper to enjoy with family and friends around a campfire at Shady Lakes.  Though initially reluctant, these would later become some of his favorite past times and memories.  They remained happily married until her death on November 17, 2016.  He was known by many names: James, Jimmy, Jimmy D, or simply Jim.  He was a big fan of Motown music and always had the tunes playing in his car.  Additionally, Jim was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and baseball stats as well as a trivia lover, especially Jeopardy.  Jim had a great sense of humor and loved to tell you a joke.  His blue eyes and kind smile will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his sister, Joan DuBois, Wentzville, MO; daughter, Samantha (Danny Bisby) DuBois, Rock Island; son, Jeffrey (Francis) DuBois, Fair Hope, AL; grandsons, William (Tdaw) DuBois, Moline, IL, Michael (Monica) DuBois, Yuma, AZ and Jeremy (Ashlie) Severs, Rock Island, IL; great grandchildren, Christopher DuBois, Aria DuBois, DeAndrew Severs, Jayden Severs, Danika Terriquez; sisters-in-law, Loraine DuBois, Linda, Diana, Peggy (Jimski), Jo, Mary (Steve); nephew, Fred Keen, St. Charles, MO and many other nieces and nephews.
