Jan Katherine (Evans) Frey, age 94, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025.
Born and raised in Moline, Illinois, Jan was a proud graduate of Moline Senior High School, Class of 1948. She remained deeply connected to her hometown community throughout her life and was a dedicated member of American Legion Post 246. In 2017, she moved to Gainesville, Florida, to be closer to family.
Jan was a woman of many talents and deep passions. She found joy in the art of crocheting, knitting, sewing, and quilting—crafting countless treasured gifts that will be cherished by her loved ones for generations. An exceptional baker, she was especially known for her famous coffee cake, a sweet symbol of her warmth and generosity.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Michael (MaryEllen) Frey and Kathy (Roger) Hutton; her grandchildren, Stephanie, Nicholas, Taylor, and Allison; and her great-grandchildren, Joshua and Eva. She is also survived by her brother, Mike (Sharon) Evans; sister-in-law Connie Evans; and nieces and nephews Mark, Scott, Kurt, Jeff, and Julie.
Jan is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 63 years, Emmett Frey; her dear son, Todd Frey; her parents, Evan S. and Mildred Evans; and her brother, John Evans.
Jan's legacy is one of love, creativity, and kindness. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her, through every handmade blanket, every family story, and every sweet bite of coffee cake. She will be forever loved and deeply missed.
