Jason Duane Wallin, 52, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away on January 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by; his love of God, his country, and his family, friends and community. He loved his church and his work. He traveled extensively around the world but always said his happy place was at home with a fire, a cup of coffee and his family.

Born on October 1, 1973, in Moline, Illinois, Jason grew into a man defined by integrity with a sense of responsibility to those around him but also to God and the country he loved so much. Through his life, he carried forward the values instilled in him from an early age. Jason was known for his love of Jesus and his extensive service as an elder and chairman at Bethany Baptist Church in Moline, IL. Jason took up many causes in his life and felt it was his calling to serve and work for the greater good. He would head into new endeavors never doubting his ability to figure it out. He started a few businesses and organizations and conquered many amazing home projects, including building an addition himself on his dream home in the country. He loved recreational vehicles with his latest being a Bronco that he bought in December 2024. It was a newer indulgence that he rarely permitted himself and it led to adventures in Colorado and the Smoky mountains. He was an avid outdoorsman and music enthusiast (especially classic rock and country music). He taught himself to play bass for his church band. He loved going to concerts and was a fan of the Colorado Avalanche and the Denver Broncos. He enjoyed rural living, specifically in Rural Township which was a return to his family roots. Jason was proud to serve as a trustee on the Rural Township Board. His sense of humor, warmth, and ability to make others feel seen and valued will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jason built an over 24-year distinguished career at John Deere, where he currently served as a senior principal architect, advancing information technology and artificial intelligence in farming. He contributed his expertise, leadership, and innovative spirit to the organization and its people. Jason was involved in Operational Technology Security, Industrial AI, and private 5G and Edge for smart factories. Colleagues remember him as a steady, thoughtful presence—someone who approached challenges with clarity and purpose, and who always made time to support others.

He was a humble man who served on prestigious boards and committees in his professional life but was still down to earth. Many meeting him outside of work were surprised to find out what he did for a living. His professional journey was shaped through his service in the United States Army and his education in Colorado.

Jason is survived by his wife of 31 years, Julie Wallin; children, Caity Wallin, Kenneth Wallin (Abby Baldwin), Elisabeth Wallin, and Joseph Wallin; grandchildren, Lena and Gavin; mother, Twila Wallin; stepmother, Jeanie Wallin; sister, Tricia (Michael) Campbell, her children, Effie, Elijah and Elias; and stepsister, Amy (Tony) Schwab; uncle, Denny (Cheryl) Wallin; aunts, Ellie Kelding and Chris Weaver. He loved his many brothers and sister in-laws, nieces & nephews and cousins. He leaves behind many other extended family members too numerous to mention. Those mourning include his church family, numerous friends, and colleagues past and present - each of whom was touched by his loyalty and compassion.

He was preceded in death by his father, Duane Wallin; grandparents, Kenneth and Verle Wallin and Rev. B. Lloyd and Elsie Weaver; aunt and uncle, Rev. Jane McChesney and Larry Weaver.

A celebration of Jason’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church, Moline, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and reflect on the profound impact he made.
