Jerry Sheldon, 57, of Orion, IL, died Thursday, January 8, 2015, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Beulah Presbyterian Church, Orion. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Reynolds Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Beulah Presbyterian Church, or to the Orion Fire District.

Jerry was born on January 30, 1957, in Davenport, IA, the son of G. Gilbert "Shorty" and Myrtle Fluegel Sheldon. He worked as a salesman for Martin Equipment for 33 years.

Jerry was a Deacon and member of Beulah Presbyterian Church, where he was involved in several different capacities. He sang in the choir, resided on the Building and Grounds Committee, and was a member of the church session.

Jerry was very dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 123 where he was serving as Scoutmaster and was currently serving as the Illowa Council Program Director. He was a Vigil member of Order of the Arrow, a Silver Beaver recipient, and the Wood Badge Course Director in 2008. He was the assistant Scoutmaster for Jamboree in 2001, and Scoutmaster in 2005 and 2010. He was awarded Outstanding Scout Master for Central Region.

Jerry was also highly involved with the Orion Fire District, where he served as President of the board. He was the former president and a current member of the Antique Engine and Tractor Association, Inc. and a member of the Association of General Contractors.

Survivors include his son, Gregory James (Samantha McMullin) Sheldon, of Orion, IL; daughter, Sarah Ann (Justin Masengarb) Sheldon, of Chicago, IL; mother, Myrtle Sheldon, of Orion, IL; granddaughter, Adalynn Ruth; many special friends, including Gary and Ina Pearsall.

He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Jean Marie Kissell.
