Joan L. Overton, 82, of Moline, IL, died Monday, January 18, 2016, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or to the American Heart Association.
Joan was born on December 6, 1933, in Maquoketa, IA, the daughter of Percy and Elsie Carlson Francis. She married Ivan "Ike" R. Overton on August 26, 1950, in Moline, IL, and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2013.
Joan worked as a machine operator for QC Die Cast, retiring in 1995. Prior to that, she worked as a waitress at 5th Avenue Grill until 1973. Joan loved square dancing and the QC Mallards. She enjoyed traveling and the Lettermen. She loved to sew and made beautiful quilts. Above all, Joan loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Victoria (Larry) Dobereiner, Sharon (Joe) Meseck, Franklin (Diane) Overton, Deborah Johann, and Shannon Overton; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Joyce (Alois) Geyman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Jennifer; grandson, Peter; great grandsons, Adam and McLain; sons-in-law, Chuck and James.
