John E. Bivens, 87, of East Moline, IL, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at his residence.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. A masonic service will be held at 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal with military honors conducted by the East Moline American Legion Post 227. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.
John was born on June 13, 1927, in Aledo, IL, the son of Earl A. and Lucille Williams Bivens. He married Doris Wells on June 4, 1949, in Silvis, IL. She preceded him in death in 2005.
John was a Korean War Veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge 1014 A.F. and A.M., Moline Consistory, and Kaaba Shrine for over 25 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 227.
