John W. Kiddoo, 70, of Moline, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at Clarissa C.Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Funeral services are 11:00 am Wednesday at Esterdahl Funeral Home, Moline. Entombment is at Moline Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Joy Methodist Church or their food pantry.
He was born August 14, 1944 in Rock Island, the son of Don W. and Elizabeth Kellums Kiddoo. John graduated from Westmer High School and Western Illinois University. He married Linda Erickson on March 9, 1973 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. John was a lifelong Democrat and active in Rock Island County politics. He served as a precinct committeeman and was employed by the South Moline Township Assessor's Office for 28 years, the last 13 years as the elected Assessor, retiring in 2011.
John was a Master Gardener and could often be found outside tending to his yard and automobiles, wearing his straw hat and suspenders. He enjoyed reading Motor Trend, watching NASCAR, grilling on his Weber, and cheering on the Chicago Bears and the Illini. John was known for his sense of humor, and could tell stories that made people laugh until they cried.
On October 9, 1974, after his own kidneys failed, his father selflessly donated one to him, for which he was always grateful. At the time of his death, John's kidney was 97 years old, which was considered by many in the medical community to be remarkable.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his cherished daughter, Angie, and her significant other, Blake. Other survivors include sisters, Ruth Dondanville, Columbia, Tenn. and Jean Kiddoo, Aledo; sister-in-law, Sandy Hudson (Don), Davenport; nieces and nephews, Karen (David), Chris (Tiffany), Doug, Zach,(Casey), Andy, Heidi, Andrea, and Chris.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Curtis.
