John was born on December 11th, 1950, to Richard and Helen (Neely) Baker. John graduated from United Township High School in 1968. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He started work at J I Case in Bettendorf, Iowa on March 5th, 1971, and then Case IH in East Moline, retiring at 33 years. John worked several jobs after Case retirement with his most recent job with Allied Universal Securities as a Security Officer for approximately 8 years until his illness prevented him from working any longer of March 2025. John married Linda (Larson) Granbois in February of 1972. They had two children together, Bryan and Rachel Baker. He later married Teresa (Morrison) Baker on July 5th, 1988. They have two sons together, Aaron and Zachery Baker of Moline, Illinois. In more recent years, John and Teresa shared the enjoyment of riding bikes together. Their mutual love for animals, most especially their Dachshunds and German Shepherds. John also enjoyed being outdoors, cutting the grass, gardening, and sitting outside enjoying their yard swing.

John's most recent joy and contentment was his calling to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his forgiveness of sin by repentance leading to his baptism in November of 2024 at 73 years of age. His hope of glory is what he clung to and is forever grateful to the teaching, love and prayers from the Elders and Saints of Sycamore Reformed Baptist Church where he was a member. He was so grateful for family and friends that helped with love, care, and encouragement.

Besides John's wife and children, he leaves behind two brothers, Frank and (Cindy) Baker and Larry and (Sally) True; sister, Sharon and (Larry) Ripka; brother & sisters-in-law, Steve and Kay Morrison & Karla Zaleski; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; as well as many, nieces and nephews.
