Jonathan Vinh Pham, 40, of Silvis, IL, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center-Illini, Silvis and now lives in glory with his Lord and Savior.
Jon was born March 20, 1985, in Des Plaines, IL, a son of Vinh and Cynthia (Carlson) Pham.
As a child, Jon was known for having so much joy. His smile was so big, reaching from ear to ear, even making his eyes seem to disappear. His childhood love of riding his bicycle and always having at least two cars in his hands turned into riding motorcycles, building, repairing and even racing cars. He loved going to car shows and races with his Dad and family at a young age and continued that passion with friends as long as he could until his passing.
Jon was known for jumping in to help anyone. He would give the shirt off his back if there was a need and he often helped with home repairs and vehicles whenever his people needed it. He worked several mechanical jobs from his dad’s auto repair shop, to roofing, to home renovations and pretty much any contractor job in between he could do. If anyone needed any tools, he had them all … “in the van.” He had unparalleled physical strength that at times made him feel invincible, but at the young age of 40, the diagnosis of cancer greatly limited his abilities, but not his spirit and passion. In the remaining two months of his life, he returned to the foundation of faith in Jesus Christ that he learned about as a child. He was able to endure the painful journey of cancer with the hope of his new and eternal life in heaven.
Jon loved fishing, kayaking, frisbee golf, racing and watching the sprint cars and late models. He loved animals, especially his dogs (Bonnie and Clyde) and his cat (Chowder).
He is survived by a son, Jonathan Rosenbaum-Pham; his sister, Cassandra “Cassie” (Dan) Sumpter, Carrollton, TX, and four nephews and nieces, Bentley, Olivia, Callum and Lily Jo Sumpter; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and close friends who he also called family.
Jon was called home to the Lord, joining his parents, Vinh and Cindy Pham. Also preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Marlowe (Mellgren) Carlson, and Hoa Ky and Nhi Thi (Do) Pham; and aunts and uncles in the US, Vietnam and Australia.
