Joyce M. Vergane, 77, of Colona, IL, died February 26, 2015, at home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2015, at Heritage Church, 4801 44th Street, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Per her wishes, cremation rites will take place following the services and inurnment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Joyce asked that memorials be made to Ovarian Cancer Research at University of Iowa in Iowa City, Autism Awareness at Madison Elementary School, or to Heritage Church in Rock Island.
Joyce was born on May 27, 1937, in Rock Island County, IL, the daughter of Harry Frank and Margaret Dunlap Vroman. In her early years, she worked for R.I.A. Officer's Club and was a waitress at various restaurants and also worked at the former Red Carpet Lounge in Moline where she met her husband, Rodger. She married Rodger A. Vergane on June 12, 1971, in East Moline, IL.
Together, Joyce and her daughter, Rita, owned and operated Joyce & Rita's Colona Café. She attended Heritage Church in Rock Island, was a member of Arizona Red Hat Club, and enjoyed quilting. She especially loved attending her grandson's stock car races and all of her great grandchildren's sporting events.
