Justin Eugene Lockett, 30, of Davenport, IA, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, IA.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at Quarters 1 on the Rock Island Arsenal. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a donation to be given to a boxer rescue organization and to an organization assisting service dogs and their soldiers.
Justin was born on June 11, 1983, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Gary E. and Vicky S. (Dobbels) Lockett. He married his soulmate, Kate Westfall, on February 29, 2008, in Davenport, IA. Justin worked at the Rock Island Arsenal as a contract specialist for the Army Contracting Command.
Justin proudly served as a medic in the United States Army National Guard. He toured in Iraq with Bravo Battery 2-123 Field Artillery. Justin enjoyed fishing, golf, poker, euchre, and being with friends and family. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, and their dog children, Brady Bear and Deuce Lee.
Justin and Kate's love was rooted in laughter and a mutual zest for living life to its fullest. In one another, they each found their best friend and one true love. They shared the kind of love that only dreams are made of; unconditional, eternal and admired by all. Justin had a soldier's physique with the heart of a teddy bear. His infectious smile and amazing personality could light up a room. Even though he sometimes told jokes that only he found funny, he made friends with anyone who crossed his path. He was up for any adventure and never wanted the good times to end. As a medic in the Army he was trained to save lives. He continues to save lives through his incredible gift of organ donation.
