Karen Joanne Canfield

Karen Joanne Canfield, 84, of Moline, passed away, August 31, 2025, at UnityPoint Health Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family, for a fund to be established.

Karen was born on August 11, 1941, in Moline, IL, the daughter of George E. and Joyce M. (Swanson) Smarsty. She married Charles Canfield on July 3, 1965, in Davenport, IA, they were married for 18 years before separating. Karen volunteered at the Moline Public Hospital as she was raising 4 children. She later worked as an office manager for Litho Equipment in California, then as a secretary for Hy Brand Contractors and retiring after 7 years in 2010. Karen owned and operated Y-Knot, making macrame pieces. She was a member of Heritage Church, Rock Island. Karen was an extremely hard worker and her family meant everything to her.

Survivors include her daughters, Audie Canfield and Tami (Kirk) Minard; son, Brian Canfield; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kathy, John, Nicole, Shanna, Stephanie, Jae, and Tasha; 22 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean (Bernice) Smarsty and Dennis (Cathi) Smarsty; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Joyce; grandmother, Vera Caldwell; daughter, Tracey Denato; granddaughter, Susan Gasper; great-grandson, Triston; brother, Richard Smarsty; sister, Sharon Johnson; aunt, Dorothy (Earnie) Nickols.
