Born in Louisiana and raised in Mississippi, Katherine and her husband Lloyd moved “North” in 1967, and lived in Park Forest, Illinois until 2000 when they relocated to Silvis, Illinois.  Katherine’s sassy personality and southern roots stayed with her throughout her life as did her deep faith and gratitude for all things in life.

Katherine married Lloyd on October 24, 1947 following a 2-month courtship and shared a wonderful loving relationship of nearly 70 years.  They adopted two girls to fulfill their desire to be parents.  Katherine was a passionate caregiver to her daughters, grandchildren and husband and loved gardening, sewing and crafts of all sorts.  She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline as well as Hope Lutheran Church in Park Forest where she devoted her time to a number of ministries including the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and altar guild.

Katherine was involved in her community, serving on the board of the Ash Street Cooperative in Park Forest, the Silvis City Council and Silvis Garden Club.  She had a legendary green thumb and tended to her garden in her final years at Park Vista.  The family extends special thanks to the staff and residents of Park Vista who became like family and provided her with friendship and care.

Celebrating her life are her daughters: Patricia (James) Fox and Laura (Christopher) Ford; five grandchildren: Britney (Mark) Hittenmiller, Shannon Fox, Nicholas Fox, Aaron (Olivia) Ford, and Jacob Ford; four great grandchildren: Monroe Hittenmiller, McKinley Hittenmiller, Maddyn Hittenmiller, and Fletcher Lloyd Ford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings.
