Katherine "Kay" D. Christensen Groves, 89, of Moline, IL, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center of Moline, Moline, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1611 41st Street, Moline. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
Katherine was born on March 27, 1925, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Heine and Magdalena (Condo) Runge. She was a cheerleader for Central Jr. High, and graduated from Moline High School, in 1943. Kay married Harold L. Christensen on February 24, 1943, in Moline, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 1985. She later married Robert L. Groves on July 11, 1992, in Moline. Kay worked as a proof reader for the Moline Dispatch, retiring in 1992 after 30 years of dedicated service.
Kay loved volunteer work and was involved with many organizations. She loved music and enjoyed traveling with her husband's band. From 1992 on she was involved with the Moline Dispatch Spelling Bee and visited all schools and finalists. Kay was a member of the Red Hats with the Moline Activity Center and the "Cat Fish Jazz" society.
She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Moline. In her early years, Kay was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir at Faith Lutheran Church where she was also a member of the Naomi Circle with the Ladies Aid. Beginning at the age of 9 she made all of her greeting cards by hand until 2014; the smallest being the size of a postage stamp and the largest being the size of a 4'x8' piece of plywood. While her children were growing up, Kay was involved with PTA, she was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and a member of Washington Grade School Mothersingers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; step son, Dennis Kelly; brother, Tom Pratt; grandchildren, Dennis Christensen, Jr. and Carie Ann Christensen.
