Katherine “Kay” P. Blumenshein, 83, formerly of Coal Valley, passed away June 2, 2025, at her home in Bettendorf.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday June 6, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 1301 4th Street. Orion, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Kay was born on February 24, 1942, in Mankato, Minnesota, the daughter of Theodore P. and Grace P. (Rue) Walters. She married Darryl D. Blumenshein on March 27, 1961 in Forest City, Iowa. Kay taught crocheting and knitting at Hobby Lobby, Moline. She worked as a bank teller at RIA Federal Credit Union in Savanna and Tooele Federal Credit Union in Utah. Kay also worked as a substitute teacher in Hawaii. She was a great baker and dedicated grandmother. She enjoyed collecting recipes from all over Europe. Kay was lucky at gambling and loved going to the casinos.
Survivors include her husband, Darryl; sons, Kip (Charlotte) Blumenshein of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Kirk (Kandra) Blumenshein of Lynn Center, Illinois, Kurt T. R. Blumenshein of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, Shea Blumenshein of Orion, Melissa Arnold of Orion, Megan (Thomas) Midgette of Suffolk, Virginia, Rhys (Jayla) Blumenshein of Barbados, Chad Blumenshein of Saskatoon, Gavin Blumenshein of Saskatoon, Seth (Micaela) Blumenshein of Honolulu, Micah Blumenshein of Honolulu; great grandchildren Emma, Chase, Corbin, Waylan, Sadie, Peyton, Ryland; sister, Janelle (Stephen) Peterson; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
