Kathleen H. Werning

Kathleen H. Werning, 75, of Moline, passed away on June 7, 2026, at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, Illinois.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and a visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday June 12, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Private inurnment will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or River Bend Food Bank.

Kathleen was born on June 21, 1950, in Rock Island, the daughter of William D. and Shirley A. (Ohrberg) Starr. She married Dave Werning on January 5, 1998, on St. John’s Virgin Islands. She had been employed at John Deere Intercontinental and Deere & Co. Export Order Department, retiring in 2001.

Kathy was many things to many people, and most of all, a person who made everyone around her feel loved. In fact, she regularly made the people she met feel so special they became family. She was quick to add an extra place setting at the table, would always send everyone off with snacks, and would figure out someone’s favorite thing and have it ready the next time she saw them. Kathy lived a life finding ways to make others’ day. Being a wife, mother, and grandma brought her the greatest joy and the children she loved most knew them as “Pa” and “Papa.” She brought endless fun, happiness, and love to those grandkids.

Some souls leave too soon, yet their love stays behind, woven into every heart they touched.

She is survived by her husband, Dave; children, Jamie (Ronda) Medinger, Kristie (Ryan) Ekstam, Alicia (Kevin) Truman, and Kristen (Chris) Stull; grandchildren, Alexis, Courtney, Hannah, Josh, Jasper, Juniper, and Mason; brother, Mark (Charlie) Starr.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
