Kathy Breitenstein

Kathryn Irene Breitenstein, 88, of Swedona, IL, died May 25, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, in Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Swedona Lutheran Church in Swedona, IL. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Kirk, Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home at 1301 4th Street, Orion, IL. Burial will be at Swedona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are to be made to Swedona Lutheran Church.

Kathy was born May 18, 1929, in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Hamilton Thorpe. She married Richard Breitenstein on November 3, 1950, in Rock Island.

Kathy held various jobs throughout her life. She was employed by Modern Woodmen, Bituminous INS, she was the first secretary at Swedona Lutheran Church, and retired from Alternatives for Older Adults in 1994.

Kathy was a member of the Swedona Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. It was where she also felt that she had a second family within the church community. She was a WELCA member and some of her hobbies included being an avid fisherwoman, camping, quilting, reading, board games, listening to music, visiting homebound friends and meeting with Via De Christo friends.

Survivors include her husband Dick, daughter, Sue Anderson, Moline, IL, son, Dan (Mary) Breitenstein, Lynn Center, IL, son-in-law, Mark Anderson, Lynn Center, IL, grandchildren, Shawn (Jaclyn) Breitenstein, New Windsor, IL, Lacey (Steve) Woodward, New Windsor, IL, Ryan (Christina) Anderson, Preemption, IL, Travis Anderson, Boden, IL, Karie John, Moline, IL, and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jean Wold and brother Tom Thorpe.
