Kay F. Nelson, 79, of Orion, IL, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with a visitation prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Orion United Methodist Church, 407 12th Avenue, Orion. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Orion United Methodist Church. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Kay was born on January 2, 1938, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Carl and Yvonne (Porter) Palmgren. She married Marvin E. “Gene” Nelson on April 2, 1974, in Orion and he preceded her in death in September of 2015. Kay was a homemaker who enjoyed making special dishes for her family and in her spare time she liked to work on crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Orion United Methodist Church and the Henry County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include her son, Kurt Nelson, Orion, IL; sister-in-law, Doris Nelson, SC; niece, Debbie (Mark) Ulseth, Bloomington, IL; nephews, David (Samantha) Nelson, SC, and Danny Nelson, Milan, TN; cousins, Don Palmgren, St. Paul, MN, Roger Ax, Saint Charles, IL, and John Ax, Lawton, OK; many great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; cousins, Richard and Betty Palmgren; brother-in-law, Don Nelson.
