Kenneth O. Udehn, 91, of Moline, IL, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3207 60th Street, Moline. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. with a visitation to follow from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice, Alzheimer's Association, or to the Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown, WI.
Ken was born on December 16, 1923, in Moline, IL, the son of Axel and Nellie Safe Udehn. He attended Moline High School. He married E. Lucille Johnson on April 5, 1947, in Moline, and she preceded him in death on February 8, 1992. Ken later married Donna Dumolien Parks Atkinson on January 12, 2001, in Moline. He worked as a Building Inspector for the City of Moline for 25 years, retiring in August of 1989. Prior to that, he worked as a carpenter.
Ken was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He was also an accommodated member and Flotilla Commander for many years with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. During his time as a Flotilla Commander, he escorted the President of the United States on the Mississippi River from Dubuque to St. Louis with a security patrol. He was also a member of the Moline VFW as well as the Moline American Legion.
Ken was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Moline and attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline. He taught an apprentice carpenter class at Black Hawk College. He enjoyed fishing, archery, golf, camping, and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include his loving wife, Donna; daughters, Fonda Redell, Moline, and Laura (Tom) Burke, Fox River Grove, IL; son, Thomas C. Udehn, Waterloo, WI; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 8 step children, Lynda Parks, Cyndi Klingaman, Dawn Clark, Vickie Andersen, Janet Parks, Randy Parks, Sue Klingaman, John Parks; 16 step grandchildren; 23 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, E. Lucille Udehn; brother, Dr. Carlyle Udehn; sister, Dorthea Nelson.
