Kirk was born on April 9, 1951, in Moline, IL, the son of Harold V. and Mary J. Britson Wicks. He graduated from Moline High School in 1969, Black Hawk College in 1976, and SIU Carbondale in 1980 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He married Novella Jean Drish on October 18, 1980.
Kirk worked for John Deere Harvester East Moline from January of 1975 until he retired from the measurement lab in June of 2010. He always said he knew that plant like the back of his hand and was proud to work for Deere & Co., as did his father. He was a member of the UAW Local 865. He was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline and then at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline.
In his early years, Kirk loved racing with his good friends, Lee and Al Otis. He especially loved racing his '69 Firebird. Kirk loved the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed boating on the Rock River and Mississippi River. He was quite a character and could make conversation with anyone he met. More than anything, Kirk loved his family, friends, and the family schnauzer, Enzo. His children were the loves of his life.
