Listen to Obituary

Kurt Jordan Frakes, 62, of Taylor Ridge, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 26th, 2026. He was born on May 1st, 1963 in Andalusia, Illinois. After graduating from Rockridge High School, Kurt married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen (Kelly) Green Frakes in Edgington, Illinois.

Kurt worked much of his adult life for MidAmerican Energy Company and various private electric contractors as a journeyman lineman. Outside of work Kurt enjoyed playing the drums, hunting, fishing, golfing, and especially spending time with his friends and family. If there was an Illinois Fighting Illini or Chicago Bears game on, you can bet Kurt could be found pacing until the final buzzer. Anyone who met Kurt would instantly be pulled into his orbit as he had a calm confidence about himself that made friends and strangers alike feel comfortable.

Those left to carry on his legacy include his wife Kelly Frakes, his three children Erin (Tyler) Christner, Tony (Hilary) Frakes, and Andrew (Beth) Frakes; grandchildren Collins Christner, Lincoln Christner, Savanna Christner, Penelope Frakes, Oliver Frakes, and Georgia Frakes; sister Kristin Nelson, brother Stephen (Lori) Frakes, and sister Stacy (Jeff) Deporter.

Kurt is preceded in death by his parents, Arlen & Margie Frakes; and his brother-in-law, Daryl Nelson.

His family will be holding a private celebration of life for Kurt, but the family would love for memories to be shared online by visiting esterdahl.com.

Memorials may be made to the Loud Thunder Forest Preserve Endowment.
