Larry K. Detweiler, 70, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL, with family by his side.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
Larry was born on March 29, 1946, in Sterling, IL, the son of Glenn & Mildred Meling Detweiler. He was a 1964 graduate of Rock Falls High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from Knox College in Galesburg, IL. In 1977, he received a Master’s Degree in social work from the University of Illinois. Larry worked as a clinical social worker at the Robert Young Center in Rock Island for 32 years. Previously, he worked as a social worker at Galesburg Mental Health Center.
Survivors include his sisters, Doris Detweiler and Janeen (Dave) Allen, all of Rock Falls, IL; nieces, Terri (Dave) Engelkens, Morrison, IL, and Michelle Villa, Moline, IL, and their families. Larry also had wonderful friends whom have helped him through his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving husband and partner of 37 years, Refugio L. “Cook” Arredondo; sister, Donna Hull.
