Larry Edward Dunn, 79, of Moline, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity, Rock Island, IL.
Private graveside services were held on July 14, 2023, at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
Larry was born on September 3, 1943, in Hannibal, MO, the son of Francis and Violet (Phillips) Dunn.
Larry enlisted in the US Army through the MEPS center in Chicago in 1961. He went through basic training at Ft Leonard Wood and then on to Ft Campbell for AIT. He transferred to Ft Bragg, NC to become part of Airborne. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, his unit was locked and loaded to deploy with US Forces. He was part of E Company 2nd Airborne Battle Group of the 501st Infantry Division at Fort Bragg, as well as assigned to C Company 1st Battalion 505th Infantry 3rd US Army at time of his discharge in 1964. He served in the US Army Reserve until 1967. He was proud to have served his country at a time when it wasn’t popular to do so.
Larry worked as a mechanical engineer for many years in the Quad Cities and Merrillville, IN. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, shooting pool, and long walks along the river. The family would like to thank Heritage Woods in Moline for their exceptional care.
Survivors include his children, Tracy (David) Northcutt, Kelly (Dave) Quillin, Amber (Wes) Mielke, Toni Finch, Jack (Nancy) Harding; grandchildren Steph, Sam, Spencer, Shane, Danielle, Jaxen, Emmy, Melissa & Chet; several great-grandchildren; and his longtime companion Debbie Street.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Richard and Robert; and grandsons, Sebastian and Cory.
