Larry L. McMeekan

Larry L. McMeekan, 86, of Sherrard, IL, passed away, October 13, 2025, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sherrard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cable Community Church.

Larry was born on July 28, 1939, in Sherrard, IL, the son of Dallas and Leona (Hurstrom) McMeekan. He married Ella Mae Lucas and preceded him in death in 1961. Larry later married Judy M. Brown in Orion, IL on September 15, 1962. In his early 20’s, Larry worked in construction as an operator with Local 537 (now Local 150) operating engineers. He also was the Chief of Police for Sherrard and Fyre Lake for 20 years. He started his own construction company, RPM Construction Company. After retiring, Larry was a hobby farmer in Sherrard, which he enjoyed tremendously. Larry was a 32nd degree mason. He was a member of the Cable Community Church, a board member for Cable Church and the Cable Community Playground Association, and a board trustee for Richland Grove Township. Larry’s hobbies throughout the years included fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle or snowmobiles, and playing the guitar.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; children, Kathy (Chris) Slattery, Gary (Robin McGee) McMeekan, Larry (Peggy) McMeekan Jr, and Kandy (Scott) DeKeyser; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Franklin (Janet) McMeekan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ella Mae; nephew, Rodney; 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
